Synopsis In the run-up to the 1972 Munich Olympics, migrant workers build the Olympia shopping centre, the largest in Europe at the time. In 2016, this same place became the site of a racist shooting where nine people were killed. A woman in the film Addressee Unknown (1983) by Sohrab Shahid Saless asks: “Why such hatred?”. In Retrospect links three historical periods, revealing the recurring racism towards migrant workers.
Directors’ bio-filmography Mila Zhluktenko (Ukraine) and Daniel Asadi Faezi (Germany) studied in the Documentary department at the University of Television and Film, Munich. Aralkum (2022) and Waking Up In Silence (2023) were awarded the Best Short Film respectively at Visions du Réel and at Berlinale Generation Kplus. In Retrospect had its international première at the Berlinale Shorts. Currently they are working on their debut feature film.
